TimberTech decking is made from advanced composite or PVC materials, depending on the product line. Composite boards combine recycled wood fibers with polymers for strength and durability, while PVC decking is made from 100% synthetic materials designed for maximum performance, moisture resistance, and longevity—ideal for harsh climates like Western New York.
Compared to traditional wood, TimberTech offers:
While wood can look great initially, TimberTech maintains its beauty and structural integrity year after year without the constant upkeep.
While TimberTech can technically be installed by experienced DIYers, we strongly recommend professional installation—especially for elevated decks or complex designs. Proper framing, fastening, drainage, and spacing are critical for long-term performance, warranty protection, and safety. A professionally installed deck ensures everything is done right the first time.
In some cases, yes—but only if the existing structure is structurally sound and code-compliant. Often, older decks require framing upgrades or full replacement to properly support modern decking materials. We evaluate each situation individually to ensure safety, longevity, and best results.
No. TimberTech decking is designed to resist warping, cracking, splintering, and rot—issues commonly associated with wood decks. It's engineered materials perform consistently through temperature changes, moisture exposure, and freeze-thaw cycles common in Western New York.
Like all outdoor decking materials, TimberTech can warm up in direct sunlight. The Advanced PVC decking is up to 30° cooler to the touch in the sun. However, lighter color options tend to stay cooler, and strategic design choices—such as pergolas, shade structures, or partial coverage—can significantly improve comfort. We help clients choose colors and layouts that balance aesthetics and livability.
TimberTech boards feature textured, slip-resistant surfaces designed to provide better traction than many traditional wood decks. While no surface is completely slip-proof, TimberTech performs very well in wet conditions and is a popular choice around pools, spas, and covered outdoor spaces.
Maintenance is simple and low-effort:
No sealing, staining, or painting is required—saving time and long-term maintenance costs.
Yes. TimberTech offers industry-leading warranties, including coverage against fading, staining, and structural defects. Warranty length varies by product line, with some options offering coverage up to 50 years. We walk through warranty details during the design and material selection process.
At 4D Custom Builders, you can feel protected, knowing that we warranty our decks with a 5-year workmanship warranty.
With proper installation and basic care, a TimberTech deck can last 25–50 years or more, depending on the product line chosen. Unlike wood, TimberTech is designed to maintain both its appearance and performance long-term—making it a smart investment for homeowners who want lasting value and peace of mind.
TimberTech offers both composite and Advanced PVC decking. PVC is positioned as a more premium option with longer warranty coverage (e.g., TimberTech Advanced PVC lists Limited Lifetime Product and 50-year Fade & Stain coverage), while composite lines commonly list 25–30-year product and fade/stain coverage depending on the collection.
Relative cost: Generally, a new PVC deck will cost more than composite due to material cost being slightly higher (depending on the product line). This is also true because PVC decks require joists to be every 12 inches vs the standard 16 inches that is used for wood and composite decks.
