How Motorized Louvers Provide Seasonal Protection
A Struxure® pergola’s motorized louvers make it easy to adjust your outdoor space as the weather changes. During sunny fall afternoons, the louvers can be opened or angled to bring in natural light and warmth while maintaining airflow. If rain begins, they can be closed to create a protective roof that directs water into the pergola’s integrated gutter system. Including heaters lets you enjoy your outdoor space in mild weather, and adding screens or Lumon® glass wall systems gives your Struxure® more functionality when the seasons are changing. Although they are not considered a four-season space, with added amenities you can enjoy your Struxure® all Spring, Summer, and Fall comfortably.
The functionality allows you to respond to changing fall weather without covering your patio with a permanent solid roof. You can enjoy an open-air environment when conditions are comfortable and create more protection when temperatures drop or rain moves in. Automated rain and wind sensors also adjust the system when changing weather is detected, adding another level of convenience and protection. Along with the systems sun tracking ability so you don’t lose any light in your home.
Add Heaters, Screens, and Lighting for Cooler Weather
The pergola itself provides plenty of functionality, but the right accessories can make the space much more comfortable during fall and Spring- even milder winter days. Integrated heaters add targeted warmth, while retractable screens help reduce cold breezes and make the area feel more enclosed. Screens can also provide additional privacy without permanently blocking the surrounding backyard views. Lumon® glass systems are also easily integrated with Struxure®; giving the space a roomier feel when wanted and open area when you don’t.
Because the days become shorter during fall and winter, integrated lighting is another valuable addition. Recessed or track lighting can brighten the space for evening dinners, gatherings, or quiet nights outside. StruXure® systems can integrate heaters, screens, fans, and lighting into one control system, making it easy to adjust the atmosphere as conditions change with a click of a button.
What to Know About Snow and Winter Maintenance
StruXure pergolas are engineered to meet the snow-load requirements for Buffalo when installed. Snow-load capacity can vary based on the pergola’s size, configuration, location, and engineering. We let you know whether the louvers should be removed for winter or simply just opened with the motor off. We also offer winter preparation for our clients who want the assistance for their pergola. This is where we come and either remove the louvers or simply open the louvers and power off the system.
During snow or freezing conditions, Struxure® recommends keeping the louvers fully open so snow can pass through instead of accumulating on the roof. Gutters and drainage areas should also be kept clear of leaves and debris to allow melting snow to drain properly. Routine inspections and seasonal maintenance can help protect the pergola, drainage system, finish, and moving components. With minimal preparation and care, a Struxure® pergola can remain a durable and valuable part of your backyard throughout every season.
